Apexx Akitas is an AKC-registered American Akita breeding program located in Sussex County, New Jersey, serving North Carolina families through either a drivable pickup (approximately 8 to 9 hours from Charlotte and the Research Triangle) or professional in-cabin flight nanny delivery to Charlotte Douglas (CLT), Raleigh-Durham (RDU), Piedmont Triad (GSO), Asheville (AVL), and Wilmington (ILM). We have produced 10 AKC Champions and Grand Champions to date, with three more dogs currently finishing their titles. Every breeding dog in our program carries an AKC Championship or Grand Championship title and has passed all five OFA health clearances. We have placed over 150 American Akitas with families nationwide since 2003. Our program includes a Westminster Kennel Club Best of Opposite Sex winner and a Best in Show winner at 4 months old.
North Carolina families searching for a championship-level American Akita breeder face a limited field within the state. Apexx Akitas is one of the most established American Akita breeding programs in the United States, and North Carolina's rapidly growing tech, banking, and healthcare professional class makes up a meaningful portion of our nationwide placements.
The North Carolina buyer profile aligns naturally with what our program requires. Charlotte's banking corridor including SouthPark, Myers Park, Ballantyne, Providence, and Lake Norman communities like Cornelius and Davidson represent one of the fastest-growing wealth centers in America, driven by Bank of America, Truist, Wells Fargo, and Duke Energy executives. The Research Triangle including Raleigh's North Hills, Cary, Chapel Hill, Durham's Hope Valley, and the Preston area is home to tech professionals from Google, Meta, Apple, IBM Research, RTI International, and the biotech corridor around Research Triangle Park. The Asheville area attracts wealth-conscious families relocating for lifestyle and climate. Wilmington and the coastal Outer Banks corridor include multi-generational family buyers with established properties.
Our program includes Grand Champion Asa, the foundation sire whose Grand Championship was earned competing against champions across the northeast. Champion Esther, who earned Best of Opposite Sex at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Champion Torro and Champion Bengal, the sire and dam of our current litter. And Champion Ash, who won Best in Show at just 4 months old against 76 entered puppies. Every one of these dogs carries full OFA clearances across hips, elbows, thyroid, eyes, and cardiac evaluations.

North Carolina is approximately 500 to 550 miles from our kennel, close enough that some families make the drive both ways for the pickup experience. Others choose professional flight delivery for speed and convenience.
North Carolina buyers, particularly the tech and banking professionals in Charlotte and the Triangle, expect verifiable data. Here is what you will find when you verify our claims.

The American Akita can thrive in North Carolina, but where you live in the state matters significantly. North Carolina's climate varies dramatically from the Appalachian mountains in the west to the coastal plain in the east, and each region requires a different level of climate commitment.
The North Carolina mountains, including Asheville, Boone, Blowing Rock, Hendersonville, and the Blue Ridge Parkway corridor, offer some of the best Akita climate in the Southeast. Higher elevations provide natural cooling with summers rarely exceeding 80 degrees and winters cold enough for the breed to enjoy. This region compares favorably to New England for Akita ownership.
The Piedmont region including Charlotte, the Research Triangle, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and the central corridor experiences hot humid summers from June through September that require standard heat management protocols: reliable air conditioning maintained at all times, modified exercise timing before 8 AM and after 8 PM during peak heat, and never shaving the double coat. Winters are mild to cool. This region is manageable with committed ownership.
Coastal North Carolina including Wilmington, the Outer Banks, and the Crystal Coast requires more diligent heat and humidity management. Sea breezes provide some relief but summer conditions are consistently challenging. Best suited to experienced Akita owners with premium climate control infrastructure and reliable indoor accommodations.
North Carolina properties across all three regions typically provide the yard space and fencing this breed requires. A securely fenced yard is not optional for an American Akita. The breed's independent nature means that even a well-trained dog should not be trusted off-leash in an unfenced area.

Every placement begins with our application. I review every application personally and use it to understand your household, your experience with dogs, your living situation, and what you are looking for in an American Akita. Not every applicant is approved. The right match between puppy and family matters more than the sale.
After reviewing your application, I will call you directly. This is a two-way conversation about your family, your goals, and any North Carolina-specific questions you have about the breed, the climate, or the delivery logistics.
North Carolina families choose from professional flight nanny delivery, ground transport, or a personal pickup trip. I will walk you through each option and help you choose what works best. Some families combine the pickup with a Northeast vacation. Others prefer the safety and speed of professional in-cabin flight delivery.
When your puppy is ready for placement at 8 to 10 weeks, delivery is coordinated. Your puppy arrives with AKC registration papers, health certificate, feeding and care guide, and my direct phone number for lifetime support. You meet your puppy at Charlotte Douglas (CLT), Raleigh-Durham (RDU), or your chosen North Carolina airport.
