Apexx Akitas is an AKC-registered American Akita breeding program located in Sussex County, New Jersey, approximately four and a half hours from southern New Hampshire and the Nashua/Manchester corridor. We have produced 10 AKC Champions and Grand Champions to date, with three more dogs currently finishing their titles. Every breeding dog in our program carries an AKC Championship or Grand Championship title and has passed all five OFA health clearances. We have placed over 150 American Akitas with families nationwide since 2003. Our program includes a Westminster Kennel Club Best of Opposite Sex winner and a Best in Show winner at 4 months old. New Hampshire's cold climate is ideal for the American Akita, and the state's property sizes and outdoor lifestyle make it one of the best environments in the country for this breed.
Apexx Akitas is one of the closest championship-level American Akita breeding programs to New Hampshire, located approximately four and a half hours south via I-91 or I-95. With 10 AKC Champions and Grand Champions produced since 2003, including a Westminster Kennel Club Best of Opposite Sex winner, Apexx Akitas offers New Hampshire families a level of verified breeding quality that is exceptionally rare in New England.
New Hampshire has the fourth-highest median household income in the country, and with no state income tax and no state sales tax, residents carry more disposable income than even those numbers suggest. The families who contact us from southern New Hampshire, the Lakes Region, and the Seacoast are serious buyers who understand that a quality American Akita is an investment in a decade-long family member. They are not searching for the lowest price. They are searching for a breeder whose claims can be independently verified.
Our program delivers exactly that. Grand Champion Asa, the foundation sire whose Grand Championship was earned competing against champions across the northeast. Champion Esther, who earned Best of Opposite Sex at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Champion Torro and Champion Bengal, the sire and dam of our current litter. And Champion Ash, who won Best in Show at just 4 months old against 76 entered puppies. Every one of these dogs carries full OFA clearances across hips, elbows, thyroid, eyes, and cardiac evaluations. Every title and every clearance is publicly verifiable.

Our kennel is located in Wantage, New Jersey, in the northwest corner of the state. The drive from most New Hampshire locations follows I-91 South through Vermont and Connecticut, or I-95 South through Massachusetts, connecting to I-84 and Route 206. Southern New Hampshire families have a straightforward highway drive.
Every family that purchases an Apexx Akitas puppy is welcome and encouraged to visit the kennel before making their decision. You will meet the parents of your puppy, see the environment they are raised in, and talk with me directly about the breed, the bloodlines, and what to expect. Many New Hampshire families make the trip on a Saturday and are back home by evening. The drive is shorter than many breeders New Hampshire buyers end up purchasing from after searching nationally.
New Hampshire buyers are independent thinkers who do their own research and verify claims before committing. Here is what you will find when you verify ours.

The American Akita is one of the best breed choices for New Hampshire living. The combination of New Hampshire's cold winters, generous property sizes, and outdoor-oriented lifestyle creates an environment where the American Akita does not just survive. It thrives.
New Hampshire's climate is ideal for this breed. The American Akita carries a dense double coat that was developed for cold, harsh conditions. New Hampshire winters are exactly what this coat was built for. Your Akita will be at its most energetic, most comfortable, and most visually impressive during the months that most other breeds spend curled up near a heater. The breed's love of snow is not a quirk. It is a feature of the dog's genetic heritage. New Hampshire summers are manageable with standard precautions: air conditioning, fresh water, and limiting outdoor activity during peak afternoon heat.

New Hampshire's property sizes are another natural advantage. The state offers the kind of lot sizes and rural properties that give this breed the space it needs. A securely fenced yard is not optional for an American Akita. The breed's independent nature means that even a well-trained dog should not be trusted off-leash in an unfenced area. New Hampshire properties, from the southern suburbs to the Lakes Region to the Upper Valley, typically provide ample space for a fenced yard that meets this requirement.
The New Hampshire lifestyle aligns naturally with Akita ownership. Families here tend to value self-reliance, outdoor activity, and the kind of quiet confidence that the American Akita embodies. This is not a dog that needs constant entertainment or social stimulation from other dogs at a park. It is a dog that is happiest with its family, on its property, doing the job it was bred to do: being a calm, watchful, loyal presence at the center of your household.

Every placement begins with our application. I review every application personally and use it to understand your household, your experience with dogs, your living situation, and what you are looking for in an American Akita. Not every applicant is approved. The right match between puppy and family matters more than the sale.
After reviewing your application, I will call you directly. This is a two-way conversation about your family, your goals, and whether an Apexx Akitas puppy is the right fit for your home. New Hampshire families tend to be direct and practical. I appreciate that, and I will give you the same straightforward honesty in return.
New Hampshire families are strongly encouraged to visit our kennel in Wantage, New Jersey. You will meet the parents of your puppy, see how our dogs are raised, and experience their temperament firsthand. For southern New Hampshire families, this is about a 4-hour drive. For families in the Keene or Hanover area, about 3.5 to 4 hours. Many families make it a day trip and tell me afterward that the visit was what confirmed their decision.
When your puppy is ready for placement at 8 to 10 weeks, you will pick up in person. Your puppy goes home with AKC registration papers, a health certificate from our veterinarian, a feeding and care guide, and my direct phone number for lifetime support. The drive home to New Hampshire is comfortable, and your puppy will be settling into your home before the end of the day.
